About This Event

Ariel is a smart, sensitive, and to her haughty mother's chagrin, plain girl who finds solace and joy in nature. During one of her escapes into the woods she gets caught in a powerful storm and must rely on a strange dog to lead her to shelter, and eventually, a new friendship with his K-9 handler and Army vet Josie. The trio finds peaceful companionship together as they work out their private troubles and discover their own definition of belonging and acceptance. Author L.M. Elliott's coming of age tale is for anyone who ever struggled to fit in and prefers the company of four-legged friends.

L.M. Elliott was a Washington-based magazine journalist covering women's issues and the arts before becoming a New York Times bestselling novelist. Her novels explore a variety of time periods, including WWII, the Cold War, and the American Revolution, and have won a number of national awards. Elliott holds a BA from Wake Forest University and a Masters in journalism from UNC Chapel Hill. She is a lifelong Virginia resident and history-lover.

Leslie Connor is the author of several award-winning books for children, including two ALA Schneider Family Book Award winners, Waiting for Normal and The Truth as Told by Mason Buttle, which was also selected as a National Book Award finalist. Her other books include All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook, Crunch, and her newest book, A Home for Goddesses and Dogs. She lives in the Connecticut woods with her family and three rescue dogs.
